Building Stronger Connections with Your Child
This parenting workshop is from Hand in Hand Parenting approach, developed through more than 40 years of work supporting children and families. At Meerilinga, we use this evidence-informed approach to help parents strengthen the connection between parent and child, recognising that children have a deep, natural desire to love and be loved.
The workshop focuses on understanding children’s emotions and behaviour, and translating key ideas from attachment and relationship science into simple, practical actions that parents can use in everyday life. Parents learn ways to stay connected with their child while also setting clear, caring limits.
By the end of the workshop, you will be able to
- Respond more confidently to your child’s big emotions
- Strengthen your relationship and connection with your child
- Bring more warmth, playfulness and ease into family life—even on challenging days
- Feel more supported and confident in your parenting
Together we will explore
- Compassionate ways to navigate everyday challenges such as sibling rivalry, aggression, sleep struggles and picky eating
- Why children have meltdowns and how to respond in ways that build connection
- How to recognise your child’s signals for support
- Why strategies like rewards, punishments and time-out often fall short, and what tends to work better
- Six connection-focused parenting tools that support children’s emotional wellbeing
- How to help children work through fears and strong feelings
- Ways to guide angry or overwhelmed children back toward playfulness and cooperation
During the workshop you will
- Try out the tools and ideas at home with your children
- Reflect on your parenting experiences in a supportive group environment
- Share strategies, challenges and successes with other parents
- Develop a Family Connection Plan that works for your family
