Meerilinga Young Children’s Foundation have today announced the recipients of the 2019 Children’s Week grants. A total of 115 applications were received for the $60,000 worth of funding available.
Of the 115 applicants 67 grants were approved, coming from regions across Western Australia including the Gascoyne, Goldfields and Esperance, Great Southern, Kimberley, Mid-West, Peel, Perth Metropolitan, Pilbara, South West and the Wheatbelt.
The grants will allow communities all over Western Australia to celebrate a child’s right to be ‘Healthy, Safe and Happy’ by hosting events for local residents, children and families to attend.
The successful applicants will host an array of exciting community events including a colour run, picnics, a photography competition and exhibition, dream catcher making workshops, Community fun days and so much more.
Meerilinga Young Children’s Foundation CEO, Lesley Moreschi said: “This year we received over 100 fantastic children’s week grant applications. We are delighted to have been able to support more than half of these with funding to make their Children’s Week events possible.
“We are exceptionally proud to be able to not only sponsor events in the Perth Metropolitan area, but to support 54 events across regional Western Australia. We would not be able to do this without funding from our generous sponsors.”
Healthway Director of Health Promotion Ms Julia Knapton said through their partnership with Meeralinga Healthway is proud to support Children’s Week, providing opportunities for children and families to enjoy a range of activities.
“Children’s Week will promote the Go for 2&5 message and Foodbank WA’s Superhero foods to encourage healthy eating and the benefits of eating more fruit and vegetables.”
The 2019 Children’s Week grants are supported by Lotterywest, the Department of Communities and Healthway through the Go for 2 & 5 Initiative.
Children’s Week WA takes place from the 18 – 27 October 2019, and will officially launch with the Go for 2 & 5 Children’s Week Family Fun Day at Whiteman Park on Sunday, 20 October.
