The Children’s Book Council of Australia’s annual book week ran from 18 – 24 August this year. The theme was ‘Find your Treasure’. Currently in its 73rd year, Book Week aims to bring together children and books to celebrate Australian Children’s literature.
This year children in Meerilinga’s Early Learning Programs were invited to dress up as their favourite book character. Children were also asked to bring their favourite book to share with their educators and friends.
The last ‘Kids and Family Reading Report’ reported that across all ages 86% of children loved being read aloud to. Combined with the information that 75% of what your child will learn in their lifetime is learnt by the age of two, there is no better time than now to pick up a book and keep the Book Week legacy alive.
So, if you’re looking for some reading inspiration to get both some reading and some quality time in with the children, then look no further than the books that made it to the CBCA’s list for Early Childhood in 2018.
Taking out the category was ‘Rodney Loses It!’ by Michael Gerard Bauer. ‘The Very Noisy Baby’ by Alison Lester and ‘Hark, It’s Me, Ruby Lee!’ By Lisa Shanahan received honours in the category.
