Meerilinga was the venue for the May meeting of The Men’s Focus Group held their recent meeting at Meerilinga Central 13 May 2016 . The members of this network work mainly in family and health services and discuss topics such as men’s health, fatherhood, relationships, and the workplace. Important information is shared including research, trends, insights and upcoming events. The Men’s Focus Group explore opportunities to work in collaboration with other group members and their organisations on projects of mutual interest.
The WA Father of the Year Award was formed within the Group two years ago and three members, including Meerilinga Dads in the Early Years program leader Gary Segal, currently make up the steering committee. The Award was created as a vehicle to recognise fathers and father figures who have made family a priority, while balancing a career and community involvement. Another small group connected within the network is currently exploring a service which will counsel and accommodate men involved in domestic violence situations. The service would create safe and secure ‘time out’ to prevent further harm to anyone.
