Community Services
Meerilinga Children and Community Services are child centred hubs for families to connect with each other and the community. Each Meerilinga Centre has a variety of services for families to support early childhood development, including:
- Playgroups and Early Learning Programs
- Parenting Support & resources
- Child Health Services
- Speech Therapy
- Street Libraries
- Community groups (Including Room Hire)
Equipped for every season, our Centres have beautiful naturescape outdoor environments co-designed by our children and families, along with spacious indoor areas with toys and play equipment to support children’s learning.
Each centre has room hire available for community members to have a great space for your child’s next birthday party or group spaces for mothers, families and any community groups. We also continue to host support groups, study sessions and community meetings.
About Playgroups
Meerilinga Playgroups are a fantastic point of connection for local families.
No child is too young for a Meerilinga Playgroups and children from birth to five years are welcome to attend and benefit from developing sensory, social and communication skills through our activities.
Even better, our Playgroups are designed to involve and connect parents and families, with caregivers attending alongside their children and retaining responsibility for their wellbeing during each session.
Including at least three families at a time, your local Centre’s Playgroups go on at least once a week and coincide with the School Term, the dates of which can be found on the Department of Education website.
What happens at Playgroup?
First and foremost – PLAY! Playgroup sessions are flexible and offer a combination of free play and planned activities including:
- Indoor and outdoor play
- Physical play
- Arts and craft
- Music and movement
- Story time and nursery rhymes
- Messy play (e.g. finger painting and water play)
- Conversation and support
- Food, drinks and refreshments brought in from home.
We encourage parents to use our Playgroups as a way to connect with Meerilinga services and discover support networks or start great conversations with local families.
Meerilinga also engages with culturally specific groups as a particular focus of our Playgroups.
Room Hire
Our Children and Community Centres can be found throughout Perth, each with rooms that can be hired by our community. The excellent facilities of our Centres are perfect for birthday parties, family-friendly meeting and activity groups, and are also open to community groups and public meetings.
