Play Communication Boards
Our Play Communication Boards are designed to make Early Childhood spaces more inclusive for every child while supporting the development of social skills and language. Through symbols that represent common playground actions, such as asking for a hat or describing feelings, the Boards help children to connect, make friends and feel a sense of belonging. This also introduces and normalises an alternative communication method.
The Picture Communication Symbols (PCS) used in the boards has been licensed by Meerilinga to provide simple and universally recognised images that are relevant to an Early Learning environment. The colours, a modified version of the Fitzgerald Key, each represent nouns, verbs, adverbs and other types of words, to make it easier for children to understand sentence structure.
By using Play Communication Boards, services can foster inclusive spaces that encourage meaningful interactions for all children attending your centre.
